Our Story & Mission

Zip and A Mile is a community calendar and directory, organized by categories and zip codes.

By using our free platform to search and explore listings, you’re contributing to funding resource listings that benefit our community as a whole.

Key Features:

  • Directory of local resources and services, organized by zip code
  • Calendar of community events
  • Profiles for individuals and organizations to showcase their offerings

Our Impact:

By supporting local resources and organizations that list on our platform, you contribute to funding valuable community resources that benefit everyone. This helps build community resilience and connection.

Acceptable Listings

  • Events, side gigs, services, nonprofits, resources, and micro/small businesses located within the zip code and about a mile beyond. You can create a listing for your side gig or service even if it’s not a registered business, as long as it follows the laws.
  • A national chain or business that’s headquartered within the listed zip code.
  • Other national chains CAN advertise under “donations needed” categories if they’re fundraising for a local organization.
  • Real estate agents/Open houses/Insurance Agents/MLMs
  • City Council, County, NDAs (Neighborhood District Association) etc.
  • National/Local social and service membership organizations/clubs.
  • Small Farms can advertise in zip codes within a 50 mile radius. (We want to support as many local small farmers as possible!)
  • Neutrally moderated local political/election debate events open to all party candidates or primary candidates.

NOT Acceptable Listings

  • We’re keeping it small! Big Business has lots of opportunities for advertising. We’re focused on supporting micro/small businesses, side gigs, nonprofits, community events and services.
  • National franchises or businesses with more than 10 locations will not be approved.
  • Listings outside of the selected zip code and about a mile will not be approved.
  • Follow the law. Not all listings are required to be registered “businesses” (think babysitter). Be transparent and honest if you’re a registered business or not, and what insurance and licensing etc. you have. Your listing will be removed if it’s reported for breaking these rules.

Who can promote on the calendar and directory for free?

Non profits & resources can advertise for free.
Examples:

  • AA/NA, DV, NAMI
  • Resume building class
  • Free intro to small business
  • Food boxes
  • Free clothing/laundry events
  • Emergency shelter
  • Organizing resources during states of emergency
